Creating a seamless marketplace for book lovers

Overview

Pangobooks is an online marketplace dedicated to make buying and selling books easy and accessible, while promoting a sustainable book economy. As we continued to expand our user base, there was a flow of product needs and opportunities driven by user requests. My goal was to create an intuitive and engaging experience for these features across web and mobile platforms, while focusing on scalability for future enhancements. As the sole UX Engineer, I led all designs, including evolving our internal design system to ensure consistency. Collaborating with other engineers, I also actively built and deployed features and components to production. We constantly focused on our users’ needs, refining both the buying and selling experience resulting in an average rating of 4.9 stars across the App Store and Google Play with over 13,000 reviews.

    Working in a lean team required iterating and shipping quickly, but that doesn’t mean sacrificing quality. To minimize costly iterations, I gathered thorough requirements at the start of each project, ensuring we addressed core user needs. In addition to designing and building these features, I scaled our design system to ensure consistency across our codebase and UI components, creating guidelines for usage and behavior. This standardized foundation streamlined the development of new features and redesigns—such as the Send Offer to Buyers tool and the Onboarding flow—accelerating timelines and improving product consistency.

    Enhancing the web experience

    Beyond the app, I focused on enhancing our web platform to ensure accessibility and responsiveness across all devices. Using React (Next.js) and SCSS, I led improvements from design to deployment, delivering pixel-perfect implementation. I refined pages to better align with our brand, optimized key user flows like checkout, and leveraged A/B testing to explore new ideas and iterate on the web experience. Each adjustment aimed to boost engagement and create a more seamless user journey, resulting in a continually improving web platform.
